Over the Term 1 break, our SMS/BGS Equestrian team were well represented at The Peter Horobin Saddlery Interschool Equestrian State Championships. This prestigious event is held annually at The National Equestrian Centre in Werribee, where riders from all over Victoria come to compete in a variety of disciplines for a place in the squad for Nationals.
Congratulations to the following students who represented our School so well, including Zali Gosling & Jordyn Treasure from year 7, Daizi Plumb and Georgia Tivendale from Year 8, and Natasha Moody from Year 10.
Some outstanding performances saw two of our riders qualify for Nationals later this year. Natasha Moody completed in four separate disciplines, including Dressage, Showing, Handy Mount and Combined Training. In Show Hunter Secondary, riding Diamonte Noir, Natasha placed – 1st in Ridden, 1st in Rider, 3rd in Led, and was the Overall Champion Show Hunter. Riding her young horse, Grand Flemingho, in the Combined Training 60cm, Natasha also won Champion. An excellent effort to qualify two horses.
David Charman placed 4th in the 1.2m Showjumping (Power & Speed) and 1st in the 1.2m Showjumping (one round stakes). David has also reserved himself a place as a reserve rider for the Nationals.
Daizi Plumb and her horse, Calvin Park Tiny Dancer, were also unbeatable in the Show ring. Daizi won all categories she entered, including Secondary Show Horse- Led Phase, Secondary Show Horse- Rider Phase, Secondary Show Horse- Ridden Phase. To her credit, Daizi won the overall Secondary Show Horse Championship and secured a place to compete at Nationals in Toowoomba.
The efforts of all our riders contributed to a great result overall for our School, with us placing 13th out of 41 schools. A fantastic result for all involved. We are all keenly looking forward to our own school Equestrian event coming up in May.
