Head of Campus update – 23 March 2017

The last 9 weeks have flown! It just seems like yesterday that we welcomed everyone back to the Junior School. During this term we have warmly welcomed our new Principal, Ms Annette Rome; supported the students as they transitioned into their new class; selected our Year 6 student Leadership Team; nominated our Years 2 to 6 Student Representative Council (SRC); enjoyed the sights of Canberra and the outdoor activities in Flinders; further developed the swimming skills of our younger students; eagerly participated in Casey Relay for Life and enjoyed the movie ‘Sing’ with families and friends at our outdoor cinema event.

The teaching and learning of Maths is a key focus this semester in Junior School. We have been fortunate to have Michael Ymer, an experienced maths consultant, working in classrooms with teachers and students across all year levels to help unpack and better understand the often complex world of maths and problem solving. His expertise and enthusiasm has inspired our continual professional learning and reminded us all of the importance of understanding maths in the real world.

Term 2 will continue to be a term filled with engaging learning opportunities and activities for people of all ages. Some of these include excursions to Channel 7 and Scienceworks; the Family Life Program for students in Year 4 to 6; Mother’s Day Lunch; Interschool Netball Challenge, Cross Country training and event; school photos and the popular Year 1 concert.

Thank you to all parents and grandparents who continue to support learning in the classrooms by volunteering precious time and help. Our students benefit from the additional assistance that in turn helps to boost achievement and confidence. We value the partnership between home and school and understand the importance of working together towards the common goal of student success and happiness.

I wish all staff and families a very safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to our students returning to school on Wednesday 19 April with loads of enthusiasm and friendly smiles. Happy holidays everyone.
