Introducing the Dianne Townsend Centre: a new gymnasium complex at the Berwick Campus of St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar
It is with excitement that we share the news of a significant new chapter in the growth of St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar in our centenary year.
We are delighted to announce plans for the construction of a new gymnasium complex on our Berwick Campus. This investment has been made possible by family contributions to our Building Fund, and very generous donations by Ms Dianne Townsend, a past student, after whom the building will be named.
We invite you to view the fly-through video that brings the planned design to life.
The design and build of the Dianne Townsend Centre reflect the School’s commitment to providing outstanding facilities that support the learning, wellbeing and development of every student. It is an investment in our students and our community’s future.
As our School continues to grow, so too does the importance of creating spaces that encourage participation, foster connection and enable students to thrive. The new gymnasium complex will provide a modern, purpose-built environment where students can engage in physical education, sport, fitness and wellbeing programs, while also supporting the development of teamwork, resilience, confidence and school spirit.
The facility will enhance opportunities for students of all ages and abilities to participate in sport and physical activity, whether pursuing personal fitness goals, representing the School in competition, or simply discovering the joy of being active. It will also strengthen our capacity to support high-performance programs and provide a venue that inspires excellence and growth both on and off the court.
Importantly, the gymnasium will also serve as a dynamic community hub. Beyond supporting our curriculum and co-curricular programs, it will create opportunities for community events, gatherings and partnerships that bring people together and strengthen the connections that makes St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar such a special place.
This major new development reflects our ongoing vision to provide contemporary facilities that enrich the student experience while preparing young people for success in an ever-changing world. It reflects our belief that healthy, engaged and connected students are better equipped to learn, lead and contribute positively to society.
It is anticipated that construction will commence at the start of the 2026 summer holidays, with completion planned for the end of 2027. Over the months ahead, we will share further updates as the project progresses.
We are excited to embark on this build in our centenary year and look forward to seeing the positive impacts this new facility will have on our current and future generations of students.
Again, we would like to thank Ms Dianne Townsend for her very kind and generous donation, and for her commitment to ensuring the students of St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar have access to exceptional facilities and opportunities.
