The Global Citizenship Study Week Program
We invite you to register your interest in members of your school’s student body joining the inaugural St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar Global Citizenship Study Week Program.
Vision
Our future sits in the hands of our children. As the world becomes ever more globally connected and arguably fractious, we believe that bringing our future leaders together to work on global issues together in an environment that promotes cultural understanding, engagement and finding consensus is critical.
The Experience
The Global Citizenship Study Week Program aims to bring students aged between 12 – 15 years old, from different backgrounds and cultures, together for a week that will focus on global citizenship. The idea is that students from different parts of the world work in groups on a range of problems the world needs to solve, for example reducing plastics in the ocean.
The week will consist of lectures, seminars, activities and workshops that will facilitate group engagement to develop outcomes that draw together diversity of thought, demonstrate the cultural inclusion and the power of many.
All students who complete the program will receive a certificate, a pin and gift.
Students Who Should Attend
The Global Citizenship Study Week is for students in Years 7, 8 and 9 (ages 12 – 15). Students outside of these ages will not be accepted into the program.
Students will be working and collaborating in international groups, where the common language will be English, to research, develop ideas and present their findings and recommendations. It is, therefore, important that students attending have a good working knowledge of English so that they can contribute.
Australian Students
The international students will engage with St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar’s 115+ Year 8 students, as well as international students from other Schools.
Devices
Students should bring a device with them, ideally a computer or a tablet, but a smartphone will also suffice. Students will use these to research, collaborate and create their group presentation.
Pre-work
Two weeks before the start of the tour, students will be assigned to working groups and will be provided their group’s topic, which they will individually need to research before start of the program.
