About this Course
In Year 10 Drama, students take their theatrical skills to the next level as they develop more sophisticated approaches to creating and responding to drama, both on their own and with others. Through improvisation, scripted drama, rehearsal, and performance, they continue to explore drama as an art form, unlocking new levels of creativity and self-expression.
Students learn to refine and extend their understanding and use of role, character, relationships, and situation, as they use their voices and movements to sustain the belief in their characters. They explore how to maintain focus and manipulate space and time, language, ideas, and dramatic action, experimenting with mood and atmosphere, and using devices such as contrast, juxtaposition, and dramatic symbols. They also learn how to modify production elements to suit different audiences, honing their ability to captivate and engage their viewers.
Throughout the course, students engage with diverse performance styles and explore drama from a range of cultures, times, and locations, discovering new sources of inspiration for their own creative practice.
As they create and respond to drama, students explore the meaning and interpretation of various forms and elements, gaining a deeper understanding of how drama can influence and challenge. They evaluate actors’ success in expressing the director’s intentions and the use of expressive skills in the drama they view and perform, identifying the unique characteristics of different performance and theatrical styles.
In Drama, students also learn to maintain safety in their theatrical practice, both for themselves and their fellow actors, as they explore new ways to nurture, develop, and sustain their passion for drama.
