Library and Information Week 2017
During this week, May 22 to 28 the SMS Junior and Senior and BGS Libraries will join organisations from Broome to Hobart, celebrating Library and Information Week 2017.
Library and Information Week aims to raise the profile of libraries and information service professionals in Australia and showcase the many and varied resources and services that libraries provide to the community.
The event has been organised by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia’s book industry and the role of libraries.
The theme for Library and Information Week 2017 is Celebrate!
We will be celebrating by having Lunchtime Library Trivia competitions and National Library Technicians Day Morning teas across the three campuses.
On Wednesday in Junior School, we will have the National Simultaneous Storytime. This is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
This year’s book is ‘The Cow Tripped Over the Moon’ by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood
By facilitating National Simultaneous Storytime, we aim to:
- promote the value of reading and literacy;
- promote the value and fun of books;
- promote an Australian writer and publisher;
- promote storytime activities in school libraries and communities around the country;
