Remembrance Day at BGS
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Remembrance Day marks a special time to honour the past, and promises ourselves the future can be better – a future in which wars no longer exist.
This was the overarching message of the Remembrance Day Service at Berwick Grammar School this Monday, 11 November. Just before 11.00 am the whole school gathered around the flagpole to solemnly acknowledge the sacrifice made by Australian serviceman in wars yesterday and today.
The whole ceremony was run by students, with 2020 School Captains Oliver Ward and Navaal Saeed opening and closing proceedings, and each reading a moving poem suitable for the tone of the day.
The Ode was read by School Ambassador and Service to BGS recipient Trent Mitchell and the complex task of playing The Last Post was given to Year 10 student Miller Marks-Boulton in what was his first public performance of this piece. He undertook it with courage and heart, bringing the whole school to readiness for that minute of silence and reflection where we think about those who lost their lives and loved ones.
Many thanks to all the boys for their involvement, both in the audience and at the podium. Some even came for the service despite being on study leave.
