Solid Performance at SIS Cross Country Carnival

Last Thursday our squad of 43 boys headed to Baxter Park to compete in the annual SIS Cross Country Carnival. Conditions were good and our Year 12 runners got us off to a good start with Peter Jennings finishing in 6th place and Sean Dack and Joel Laycock not far behind in 11th and 16th respectively. In a race of around 50 competitors it was a great effort by our school’s leaders in their final Cross Country Carnival for the School. The under 17 race saw no top 10 finishers, but Aidan Ferreira in 11th place and James Cairns 19th both ran great races.

The under 16 team saw the best results with 3 runners finishing in the top 10 led by Mason Bursill in 6th place, David Charman 8th and Rylan Hall finishing 9th. A huge effort by our Year 10 boys who fell just short of securing the pennant for their age group. Nick Hoghton led the way in the under 15 race, crossing the line in 6th place and Patrick Holloway finished 13th after missing last year’s carnival with a badly broken leg.

It was our 2 youngest teams that had the most individual success on the day. Paddy Cross finished in 12th spot and Sam Park 8th in the under 14 race but it was again Caydn Lane who was the star of the day, crossing the line first to defend his title and go back to back as the SIS Cross Country champion for his age group and division. Our other medallist was Sam Hoghton in the under 13s who ran a fantastic race to finish third, just ahead of our other top 10 finisher Evan Johnson.

All in all it was a great effort by our boys against some very stiff competition. With one SIS Carnival remaining for the year our focus turns to Athletics in Term 3 when we will hope to back up our swimming success with another good showing on the track at MSAC.
