Year 8 Drama Commedia dell’Arte workshop
On Wednesday 29th May Ms Rosa Campagnaro from ‘Make-a-Scene’ took the entire Berwick Grammar School Year 8 Drama students for a 90-minute Commedia dell’Arte workshop.
Commedia dell’Arte is a kind of Italian comedy theatre that was popular in the 16th – 18th centuries. It was based on stock characters, who were often identifiable by masks.
The boys were introduced to comic gesture, exaggerated movements and the different stock characters behind the idiomatic masks. The boys will use these skills as they create, develop and perform their own comedy performances during the final weeks of the semester.
It was wonderful to see the boys embrace the characters and really put themselves into the workshop.
